Our piece of Olympic success

When it comes to sitting down at the Olympics, Kiwis are number 1. All of our medals apart from Valerie Adam's silver-come-gold where achieved on our backsides.

We've seen first-hand the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at Yachting New Zealand. But it's not just at the Olympic level where the hard yards are done. Check out this "Performance Pathway" poster we did for Yachting New Zealand that demonstrates that the hard work starts right at the grass root.

Where we earn our keep...

Here's where we earn our keep. A good client handed over a bunch of supplied footage and asked us to make something of it. The footage wasn't great - a bit shaky and fairly repititive. With a bit of editing, colour grading, text, and a nice font, we were able to give the client their wish and make something of it. Here is a split screen comparison between the edited and unedited footage. Works better if played full screen.

A view shared by almost no one

Gareth just spent a few days in the lower North Island making a couple of videos for a new 12- part series we're making for a client. Here's a shot he took on the Wairarapa Coast. A stunning view that he shared with practically no one! This is taken from the small fishing village of Ngawi where they launch their fishing boats off the beach with bulldozers. Very cool!!

Death by Powerpoint?

Anti PowerPoint Party (founded in May 2011) is a Swiss political party dedicated to decrease professional use of PowerPoint and other presentation software, which the party claims "causes national-economic damage amounting to 2.1 billion CHF" and lowers the quality of a presentation in "95% of the cases". The party's goal is to become the fourth largest party in Switzerland in terms of membership. Well we've all sat through a few Powerpoint hells (Whizbang transitions, Word clip art and illegible copy), but we believe that a well put together presentation still holds it's own when used wisely. And so does the crew at Yachting New Zealand who now have five new templates to prove the Swiss wrong. Make us proud!

Time Lapse and Magpies

Here is our latest monthly edit of a time lapse project we are currently undertaking for Manukau Institute of Technology. This time lapse will be approx 18 months in the making but we are supplying a monthly edit to the client as well.
The camera is mounted on the roof of a nearby building and housed in a waterproof housing which has been wrapped in insulating tape to help manage the internal and external temperature differences as the seasons change. The only problem with the silver insulating tape is that the Magpies love it. I know this because they are often in the shots.

Shooting boats

We've just spent the last two weeks photographing and making videos of several boats for our client Boating NZ magazine. The shoots took us from the Bay of Islands in the north to Lake Taupo in the south. Lake Taupo really turned it on for us with a stunningly beautiful day. Lake Taupo is reknown for its Trout fishing and one of the guys onboard had a quick cast but to no avail. The boat pictured will be kept at Ngawi on the Wairarapa Coast where they use bulldozers to haul the boats out of the water onto a rocky beach. Only bummer was there no snow on the mountains yet. Here's a couple of shots from the shoot on lake Taupo.

Paralympic sailing video

We recently finished this video of Tim Dempsey and Jan Apel who are two very inspirational Paralympic sailors aiming for the 2012 London Paralympics. You wouldn't meet two nicer people who thoroughly deserve to succeed. They are looking for support and sponsorship to help make their journey a bit easier.
The video was shot on a Canon 5D MarkII DSLR. Here is the link to their video. Music is by the hugely talented Steph Casey, stephcasey.bandcamp.com

Kitchen Link

Couple of shots from an architectural photography job we did recently for Kitchen Link who do high quality residential kitchens. Their design and workmanship is top-notch. The property was a small rural property in Riverhead and the view from there back to Auckland city is fantastic.

Boating NZ - March

On one of the few good days of our disappointing summer Gareth spent a morning on the water shooting a Fyran power boat for Boating NZ Magazine. His only regret was there was no fishing gear on board to make the most of the day.

NZ Geographic Magazine

Check out Gareth's shoot of Auckland Anniversary Day he did for NZ Geographic Magazine with the talented Jason Hosking and Ivor Wilkins. The day involved ripping around the Waitemata in an inflatable RIB shooting all sorts of different craft from tugboats to sleek, modern racing yachts but the highlight were the graceful old classic yachts of which many have been restored to better than original condition.

MIT Time lapse

This week we are starting an 18 month time lapse video project for Manukau Institute of Technology. Our subject will be the construction of a new building on their Manukau campus. The result will be the entire 18 month construction phase edited into a video only a few minutes long. We'll keep you posted with updates as we go.

Corks Popping

Here's a shot we did recently for Wine NZ Magazine. It was three bottles of Champagne with the corks popping simultaneously. Ever tried to get three corks to pop at exactly the same time? Nah didn't think so and neither have we. The final shot was made up of several different photos all layered together but that doesn't mean we didn't get champagne spray EVERYWHERE!
